ACNS 2016

The 8th American Conference on Neutron Scattering (ACNS 2016) was held July 10-14, 2016 in Long Beach, California. The meeting was a great success! For a detailed report on the meeting, see the articles in the November edition of Neutron News.

Save the date! ACNS 2016

Join us for the 8th American Conference on Neutron Scattering (ACNS 2016). Held July 10-14, 2016 on board the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, the Conference will provide essential information on the breadth and depth of current neutron-related research worldwide. Hosted by the Neutron Scattering Society of America, this year’s Conference will feature a combination of invited and contributed talks, poster sessions, tutorials and an industrial exhibit. Mark your calendar today and plan to attend ACNS 2016!

11th LANSCE School on Neutron Scattering: Materials at the Mesoscale

11th LANSCE School on Neutron Scattering: Materials at the Mesoscale, February 18-27, 2015 |

Los Alamos Neutron Science Center, Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos, New Mexico

The 11th LANSCE School on Neutron Scattering: Materials at the Mesoscale, will focus on the influence of surfaces, interfaces, meso- and micro-structure on the functionality of materials. The nine day school will provide an overview and training, through hands-on exercises, of concepts, instrumentation, measuring techniques and data analysis in neutron scattering. Techniques such as: neutron diffraction, small angle neutron scattering, local structure determination, neutron reflectometry together with scanning electron microscopy will be covered.

Gordon Research Conference on Neutron Scattering

Gordon Research Conference on Neutron Scattering
Effect of Disorder and Disordered Materials, June 21-26, 2015, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Neutron Scattering is a new conference series featuring world-leading neutron scattering scientists who will share and discuss their latest discoveries in the GRC (interactive) style. The inaugural conference will focus on the effect of disorder and disordered materials. Disorder is ubiquitous and often strongly influences the properties of a material. For example, small changes in oxygen stoichiometry in pyrochlore materials and other frustrated magnets, can lead to a very different magnetic response. Meanwhile, microalloying is known to dramatically improve the glass forming ability of bulk metallic glasses. The underling physical mechanisms leading to these novel phenomena are subjects of intense debate. Disordered materials encompass glass, liquids, spin glass, quantum liquids, relaxor ferroelectrics, polymers, and bio systems.

Applications for this meeting must be submitted by May 24, 2015

ACNS a Great Success!

The 7th American Conference on Neutron Scattering (ACNS) was held in Knoxville, Tennessee, June 1–5, 2014 and drew 440 attendees. A Neutron News article has been published summarizing the meeting. A collection of photos from the conference can be found at the ORNL Neutron Sciences flickr site.

Neutron and X-Rays: Tutorial on Sources, Instrumentation, and Scattering

This two part tutorial will be held on Sunday Feb. 16. 2014 in conjunction with the TMS 2014 Annual Meeting and Exhibition.  The tutorial will review neutrons and X-rays, including sources, instrumentation, theories of scattering and diffraction, concept of reciprocal space, Ewald construction, dynamic and kinematic theory, limit to small crystals, nanocrystals, lattice gradients. It will explain some fundamentals of line profile analysis, with basic facts on nanoparticles – their shapes and most typical properties – restricting the attention to the simplest case of metal systems. The state-of-the-art diffraction analysis of defects will be introduced in the tutorial.
